A lump of pure iron.

Will be faster to use if enchanted with Wind of Ages.
Skill experience boost if enchanted with Circle of Cunning
Enchantments on iron lumps will degrade over time.
You can keep using the enchantments by combining more lump into the enchanted one.

The metal is considered an average material, and as such doesn't provide any special properties.
Higher QL forges, campfires, and ovens will smelt the ore faster.
To smelt you press "open" on the fire source and put the ore in the window.
