A long pole with a string and a hook made of wood. It is made from wood. It can be improved by applying some log.

Equip the fishing line and right click the shaft, and select Create/Tools/Fishing rod.

Equip the log and right click on the fishing rod, and select improve.
There are also times when you need a pelt, carving knife, iron file, or a mallet to improve the item.
